SACRED MUSIC
Mother of Divine Mercy Parish is blessed to have sacred music in our beautiful historic parish. Through our liturgies and music, we hope to give all glory to God and to assist the faithful in drawing ever closer to Our Lord Jesus Christ. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states, "The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as a combination of sacred music and words, it forms a necessary or integral part of solemn liturgy." (Paragraph 1156, quoting the Second Vatican Council's Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium).
Singing for Masses at Mother of Divine Mercy Parish is the "Schola Cantorum" choir under the direction of Mr. Ronald Weiler. The Schola Cantorum is an advanced choir that sings a wide variety of sacred literature from across the centuries. The group will sing Gregorian Chant, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Palestrina, all the way up to more traditional contemporary settings of sacred texts. Auditions for membership in the Schola Cantorum is open to members of open to all. Singers in the choir are expected to have a basic grasp of music sight reading, fundamental music theory, be able to blend into a group of voices and have some experience part singing. Most of all, however, members of Schola Cantorum have a love for our Lord and our Church, and MOST importantly, want to have FUN making beautiful sacred music! Rehearsals are every other week at 7pm at various as announced by the director.
